The county health system, which is expected to end this fiscal year with a $96 million budget shortfall, asked Ms. Preckwinkle for a $327 million county subsidy as part of its spending plan. The requested amount is up from last year’s county subsidy of $273.9 million.

Cook County commissioners will review Ms. Preckwinkle’s spending budget before passing the proposal.

Cook County Health CEO Ramanathan Raju said he plans to rework contracts with service vendors and consultants to make up for the lower subsidy amount, according to the report. Other plans to compensate for a lower subsidy include higher parking rates and layoffs.
