Connecticut launches medical cost estimator tool

Kelly Gooch -

Connecticut has launched a cost estimator tool for medical care.

The Healthscore CT cost estimator, unveiled Oct. 8, allows users to compare prices for some inpatient and outpatient procedures offered by Connecticut healthcare providers. The prices are averages based on insurance claims from the state's All-Payer Claims Database.

For providers to be included in the cost estimator, there must be five or more claims per service for that provider, state officials said.

About half of inpatient and outpatient services are included on the Healthscore CT interactive website, and the state said it will add more.

The tool comes about two months after the state revealed its quality scorecard, which allows users to view and compare quality scores of providers on diabetes care, preventive health and other quality measures.

More information on the cost estimator and quality scorecard is available here.
