Connecticut hospitals brace for payment cuts amid state budget standoff

Alia Paavola -

As the fiscal gridlock continues in Connecticut, hospitals are bracing for supplemental payment cuts, according to the Hartford Courant.

The lack of a biennial budget in Connecticut will result in a reduction of Medicaid reimbursements to hospitals from the state.

"It will result in less access to care for patients, job loss, and it will raise the cost of care, Jennifer Jackson, CEO of the Connecticut Hospital Association, told the Hartford Courant. "We need Medicaid funding preserved for the people of Connecticut — it is truly a lifeline."

If legislators don't agree on the state budget by the start of the new fiscal year, which begins on Saturday, Connecticut's finances will be run by Gov. Dannel P. Malloy through an executive order, according to the report.
