Greensboro, N.C.-based Cone Health is now the sole owner of HealthTeam Advantage.
Cone Health purchased Winston-Salem, N.C.-based Novant Health’s stake in the plan, according to an April 15 news release. Novant Health became a co-owner of the plan in 2022.
HealthTeam Advantage has more than 22,000 Medicare Advantage members. The plan expanded from seven North Carolina counties to 33 during the time Novant Health co-owned the plan, according to the news release.
The acquisition will not change anything for HealthTeam Advantage members, according to the news release. Members will continue to have access to Novant Health providers.
HealthTeam Advantage is the operating name of Care N’ Care North Carolina. The plan launched in 2016 as a joint venture between Care N’ Care, a Texas-based Medicare Advantage provider owned by Southwestern Health Resources, and Cone Health. Care N’ Care exited the venture in 2017.
Southwestern Health Resources shut down Care N’ Care at the end of 2024.
Cone Health was acquired by Risant Health, a nonprofit formed by Oakland, Calif.-based Kaiser Permanente, acquired Greensboro, N.C.-based Cone Health, a five-hospital system, at the end of 2024.
