'College GameDay' beer sign raises $90K and counting for Iowa children's hospital

A 24-year-old hoping to crowdfund a case of beer at ESPN's "College GameDay" instead sparked a major fundraiser for University of Iowa Stead Family Children's Hospital in Iowa City, Iowa, The Washington Post reports.

As of Sept. 19, five days after the game, people have donated $90,000 to the football fan, and Venmo and Anheuser-Busch have pledged to match the donation, according to local news station KCCI.

Iowa State fan Carson King traveled to Ames, Iowa, for the annual University of Iowa-Iowa State game, where ESPN was hosting "College GameDay." He brought a sign with him that said, "Busch Light Supply Needs Replenished ~Venmo~ Carson-King-25," in case he got on TV, according to The Washington Post report. He raised $400 in the first half hour, and when that number quickly began to climb into the thousands, Mr. King decided to do something special with the money.

Mr. King plans to keep the account open until the end of the month for donations. He will keep about $15 for the case of beer, according to the report.
