CMS signs off on $52B Medicaid waiver for Massachusetts

Ayla Ellison -

CMS has approved a five-year, $52.5 billion Medicaid waiver for Massachusetts, according to the Boston Herald.

Massachusetts is one of several states that has a Medicaid waiver from the federal government. The waiver allows Massachusetts to retool MassHealh, its Medicaid program.

The overhaul of MassHealth involves shifting from fee-for-service to a value-based model, including the launch of an ACO pilot program and investments in long-term care services and behavioral health.

In a statement to the Boston Herald, Massachusetts Gov. Charlie Baker said the waiver is a "major step toward creating a sustainable MassHealth system for people of the Commonwealth."
