Cleveland Clinic reshapes itself by swapping hospital for health clinic

As Cleveland Clinic prepares to open a 24-story hospital in Abu Dhabi, it is dispersing more services outside of its hospitals at home, according to a report from The New York Times.

Cleveland Clinic closed Huron Hospital, which it formerly operated, and has replaced it with a family health center. That facility recently expanded the hours of its separate walk-in clinic, and is working to get people to go to the walk-in clinic for basic medical care instead of the emergency room, according to the report.

Cleveland Clinic has also signed a letter of intent with the Lakewood Hospital Association and the Lakewood Hospital Foundation to replace 108-year-old Lakewood (Ohio) Hospital with a family health center to meet the demands of patients.
