Christus is assisting affected employees in securing new roles within the system, having found positions for more than 80 employees since the notice was filed, a health system spokesperson confirmed to Becker’s. The system is hopeful that all hospital associates will transition into other roles, and noted that it currently has more than 2,000 job openings across Texas.

No layoffs have occurred yet, and the hospital will not know how many employees, if any, will be laid off until April 25, the spokesperson said.

The hospital’s closure and the consolidation of services to nearby Christus hospitals follows an evaluation of the hospital’s operations and community needs, the system said in the closure announcement. A new tower opening in spring 2025 at Christus Santa Rosa Hospital-Westover Hills in San Antonio will replace all inpatient beds at the medical center.
