Children's Healthcare of Atlanta's operating income jumps in Q2: 4 things to know

Children's Healthcare of Atlanta saw its operating income and net income grow in the three months ended June 30, according to recently released financial documents.

Four things to know:

1. The health system's operating revenues and support — which included donations —totaled $489.6 million in the second quarter of 2019, up from $448.1 million in the same period of 2018. The boost was largely attributable to a 9.7 percent year-over-year increase in net patient service revenue.

2. Children's Healthcare of Atlanta's operating expenses also rose 6.7 percent year over year.

3. After factoring in that expense growth, the health system ended the second quarter of 2019 with operating income of $82.2 million. That's up 24.1 percent from $66.2 million in the same three months a year prior.

4. Net income attributable to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta and affiliates totaled $311.1 million in the three months ended June 30, up from $75.7 million in the same period of 2018.
