Care New England to close Rhode Island facility

Care New England's Providence, R.I.-based Women & Infants Hospital plans to close its facility in Woonsocket, R.I., according to The Valley Breeze.

The Woonsocket location is one of three regional locations. The facilities in South County and East Greenwich, R.I., will not be affected.

The decision is a result of an upcoming lease expiration. Rather than renewing the lease, the hospital plans to close its doors in July.

"With the expiration of the lease at Women & Infants' Medical Office Building in Woonsocket on July 1, 2018, we are reviewing other opportunities in the community," Amy Blustein, director of marketing at Women & Infants Hospital, told The Valley Breeze.

The announcement comes just five months after Care New England filed an application to close Memorial Hospital in Pawtucket, R.I, which drew widespread criticism from employees and sparked a lawsuit. As a result, CNE opted to transition the Memorial Hospital into an outpatient center instead of closing the facility.
