California hospital at risk of losing Medicare, Medicaid funding

Lompoc (Calif.) Valley Medical Center is at risk of losing its Medicare and Medicaid contracts following a CMS survey that found several deficiencies, according to the Lompoc Record

The compliance issues were included in a 128-page report CMS prepared following a surprise inspection Feb. 6-10. The survey revealed the hospital was not in compliance with several federal requirements, including some related to staff training, pharmacy procedures, food preparation and security. CMS said it would pull the hospital's Medicare and Medicaid funding June 8 if the deficiencies are not corrected.

Lompoc Valley Medical Center CEO Jim Raggio told the Lompoc Record the hospital addressed all of the issues identified by CMS and submitted a correction plan to the agency. He said CMS will conduct another surprise inspection of the facility before June 8 and he is confident the hospital will keep its Medicare and Medicaid contracts.
