California Gov. Gavin Newsom on Jan. 8 announced a proposal for a $2.7 billion COVID-19 emergency response package, which includes an investment in testing, vaccinations and front-line worker support.
Mr. Newsom is also calling for paid sick leave for front-line workers, according to a news release from the governor's office.
The package includes:
- $1.2 billion to bolster COVID-19 testing
- $583 million for vaccinations, boosters and fighting misinformation
- $614 million for front-line worker and health system support
- $200 million to support state response operations
- $110 million for vulnerable populations and improving contact tracing
"From Day One, California has taken swift and direct action to battle COVID-19 with policies that have saved tens of thousands of lives, but there's more work to be done," Mr. Newsom said.
