Senate Bill 17, which was initially introduced by Sen. Ed Hernandez, D-West Covina, would require drug makers to notify purchasers prior to raising prices, said Dr. Hernandez in a news release. Additionally, the bill would require health plans to report spending on prescription drugs.

The pharmaceutical industry has expressed opposition to the bill, while consumer advocates have supported it, according to the report.

SB 17 was approved by the State Assembly earlier this week and the Senate Wednesday.
