Austin hospital closes after 133 years; relocates services

University Medical Center Brackenridge in Austin, Texas closed May 21 after 133 years. The hospital's services are being transferred to Dell Seton Medical Center at The University of Texas, a new 211-bed teaching hospital in Austin, according to the American-Statesman.

The new facility serves as the teaching hospital for Dell Medical School at The University of Texas at Austin and is owned and operated by Seton Healthcare Family, which is a member of St. Louis-based Ascension.

Dell Seton Medical Center will serve as an anchor for a healthcare innovation zone in downtown Austin and is designed for growth. The hospital can add additional operating rooms and up to 135 more beds in the future.
