Ambulance company to halt some services in California, citing low Medicaid reimbursement rate

The largest ambulance provider in the U.S. will no longer provide nonemergency transportation in Los Angeles County, citing low reimbursement rates from California's Medicaid program, Kaiser Health News reported Oct. 28.

In September, American Medical Response announced it would pull non-emergency services in Los Angeles. The division was set to lose $3.5 million in Los Angeles in 2022.

American Medical Response's exit equates to a loss of 28,000 transports a year in Los Angeles County, Kaiser Health News reported.

A spokesperson for the Hospital Association of Southern California told the outlet that the loss will "undoubtedly impact" hospitals' ability to transport and manage the flow of patients.
