6 recent grants, donations to healthcare organizations

Numerous healthcare organizations recently received donations to fund research, advance treatments, improve patient care and start renovations.

Here are six recent donations, grants or bequests given to healthcare organizations by various entities reported by Becker's Hospital Review in the past two weeks, beginning with the most recent.

1. Children's Mercy Kansas City receives two record-breaking gifts totaling $150M
Children's Mercy Kansas City (Missouri) received two gifts totaling $150 million, representing the largest one-time gift donated to a children's hospital for pediatric research, to support the construction of the hospital's new research institute.  

2U of Alberta Hospital receives $3M to advance hematology program
The University of Alberta Hospital in Canada received a $3 million gift to support the hospital's hematology program.

3. Retrophin pledges $3M to Children's National to establish rare disease network
Washington, D.C.-based Children's National Health System will create a rare disease network with a $3 million gift from San Diego-based Retrophin, a biopharmaceutical company specializing in developing therapies for rare diseases. 

4. Boca Raton Regional receives $35M from 3 families to support 7-story tower
Boca Raton (Fla.) Regional Hospital received a total of $35 million from three families to help support its $260 million expansion project.

5. Arkansas Children's opens outpatient clinic, receives $8M gift
Springdale-based Arkansas Children's Northwest, a hospital slated to open this month, will start providing outpatient services Jan. 9. The hospital also received an $8 million donation to support the construction of the new hospital.

6. NFL allocates $17M to support NIH concussion research
The NFL has allocated $17 million in funds to back National Institutes of Health-supported research into diseases and health issues related to concussions and brain injuries.
