 Numerous healthcare organizations recently received donations to fund research, advance treatments, improve patient care and start renovations.

Here are six recent donations, grants or gifts given to healthcare organizations by various entities in the past two weeks, beginning with the most recent.

1. University of Iowa Stead Family Children's Hospital receives $1M gift from Hawkeye coach
Iowa City-based University of Iowa Stead Family Children's Hospital received a $1 million donation from University of Iowa football coach Kirk Ferentz and his wife Mary Frentez to support neonatal research.

2. 5 health organizations receive grants from UnitedHealthcare to improve access to rural healthcare
Minnetonka, Minn.-based UnitedHealthcare awarded $234,000 in grants to five health organizations in Kansas to improve access to rural healthcare.

3. Shriners Hospital for Children receives $30k in donations
Springfield, Mass.-based Shriners Hospital for Children received $30,000 from Dunkin' Donuts to support enhancements at the hospital.

4. Sanford Health receives $11.3M NIH grant to advance population health research
Sioux Falls, S.D.-based Sanford Health's Population Health Group received an $11.3 million grant from the National Institutes of Health to study health outcomes and disparities in American Indian communities.

5. NIH awards UW-La Crosse researcher $338k to study blood clot prevention
A University of Wisconsin-La Crosse researcher, Scott Cooper, PhD, received a $338,000 grant to advance his research on the prevention of blood clots to help stop heart attacks and strokes.

6. UAB School of Medicine, University of Mississippi receive $10M NIH grant
The National Institutes of Health awarded $10 million to University of Alabama at Birmingham and Oxford-based University of Mississippi in collaboration with HudsonAlpha Institute for Biotechnology, a nonprofit research organization, to advance genome sequencing research.
