5 recent donations to healthcare organizations

Several healthcare organizations recently received donations to fund research, treatments, patient care and renovations.

Here are five recent donations, pledges or bequests reported by Becker's Hospital Review in the last two weeks, beginning with the most recent.

1. Rady Children's Hospital (San Diego). The namesake of Rady Children's Hospital donated a historic $200 million to the hospital to support a campus redesign, including technology upgrades and expansions.The donation, the largest in the hospital's history and among the largest gifts ever made to a U.S. children's hospital, is from Ernest and Evelyn Rady. 

2. The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center (Columbus). The university's medical center received $15 million in donations to support cardiovascular research. The donations include a $5 million estate gift and a $10 million cash pledge from Joe and Linda Chlapaty.

3. University Hospitals Rainbow Babies & Children's Hospital (Cleveland). The children's hospital received a record-breaking $34.5 million gift from the Rainbow Babies & Children's Foundation. The gift will be used to help ensure children have access to medical care close to home. It also will support recruitment initiatives, education programs and research.

4. Baystate Franklin Medical Center (Greenfield, Mass.). The medical center received a $200,000 pledge from its fundraising arm. The donation will pay off the hospital's $26 million surgery center project. 

5. Cleveland Clinic. Cleveland Clinic will split a $1 billion donation from Lord Corp., a private technology and manufacturing company, with Durham, N.C.-based Duke University, Boston-based Massachusetts Institute of Technology and the University of California-Los Angeles. Each organization will receive $261 million for medical education and research.
