22 rural Louisiana hospitals get Medicaid funding boost

Brooke Murphy -

CMS has agreed to increase Medicaid funding to 22 rural hospitals in northern and central Louisiana after determining the facilities were underpaid, reports The News Star.

Rep. Ralph Abraham, MD, (R-Alto) wrote a letter to CMS requesting the agency revisit Medicaid reimbursements to hospitals in underserved communities. CMS agreed the hospitals are underpaid and decided to recalculate funding distribution.

CMS has not determined how much funding those 22 rural hospitals will receive moving forward, according to the article.

Executive Director of the Rural Hospital Coalition Charles Castille  said the funding "will be of significant benefit to our struggling rural hospitals in Louisiana," according to The News Star.
