Two healthcare design and development firms, HDR and SMP, will lend their help to a possible new community hospital in Grand Island, Neb., according to a Grand Island Independent report.

The two firms, retained by numerous local physicians, will help identify the space planning and programming requirements for the possible facility.

HDR and SMP are working with planners, programmers, clinical specialists and designers to explore the various platforms needed for a new hospital, Wendy Moran, HDR's healthcare principal, said, according to the report.

"If the decision is made to move ahead with the hospital, our goal will be to help them deliver an unparalleled patient experience, one that reinforces a commitment to the health and well-being of Grand Island and the surrounding community," Ms. Moran said, according to the report. "Our discussions are helping to frame what is needed to bring excellent care and that kind of patient experience to life."

Deb Yoder, director of clinical operations for SMP, echoed Ms. Moran in a news release, saying, "Our goal is to assist the local team with insight into best practices, both clinically and as it relates to operating a vibrant, cost-effective and efficient hospital."
