Numerous healthcare organizations recently received donations to fund research, advance treatments, improve patient care and start renovations.

The following are 18 recent donations, grants or gifts given to healthcare organizations by various entities, beginning with the most recent.

1. UT Health San Antonio receives $2.3M grant
UT Health San Antonio received a more than $2.3 million gift from the Max and Minnie Tomerlin Voelcker Fund to advance and study treatments for heart disease and cancer, according to My San Antonio.

2. Northwell Health receives $40M donation
Northwell Health in New Hyde Park, N.Y., received a $40 million gift from Sandra Atlas Bass to support North Shore University's Sandra Atlas Bass Heart Hospital in Manhasset, N.Y.

3. Scripps Research Institute receives $7M grant
Scripps Research Institute received a $7.2 million grant from the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke, part of the National Institutes of Health, to develop new treatments for frontotemporal dementia and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, or ALS, according to the South Florida Business Journal.

4. Lafayette General Health to use $250k grant to expand telemedicine in local public schools
A grant awarded by the James M. Cox Foundation enabled  Lafayette (La.) General Health to expand telemedicine services in St. Martin Parish public schools.

5. Huntington VA Medical Center receives $650k merit review grant
Huntington (Va.) VA Medical Center received a $650,000 merit review grant to research the cause of diarrhea, which is a leading cause of disability for veterans serving overseas, according to the Herald Dispatch

6. Christ Hospital receives $2M donation to support heart failure research
Cincinnati-based Christ Hospital received a $2 million donation from the Frank and Margo Homan Family Foundation to support heart failure research, according to the Cincinnati Business Courier.  

7. Wash U to rename genomic center after $10M gift
The Harry Edison Foundation donated $10 million to the Center for Genome Sciences and Systems Biology at the Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis for the advancement of personalized medicine research.

8. Torrance Memorial Medical Center receives $32M donation
Torrance (Calif.) Memorial Medical Center received a $32 million gift from Melanie and Richard Lundquist to advance neurological, orthopedic and spinal care at the facility, according to the Los Angeles Times.

9. Legacy Salmon Creek Medical Center receives $500k donation to upgrade breast cancer center
Legacy Salmon Creek Medical Center in Vancouver, Wash., received a $500,000 gift from Douglas and Heather Green to upgrade its breast cancer center, according to The Columbian

10. MaineHealth Cancer Care Network gifted $10M
Portland based-MaineHealth Cancer Care Network received a $10 million grant from the Harold Alfond Foundation to accelerate delivery of services and improve patient accessibility, according to the Press Herald

11. UTHealth School of Public Health receives $2.6M grant
The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston School of Public Health received a $2.6 million grant from CMS to research social factors that affect Medicare and Medicaid patients in Harris County, Texas. 

12. Los Angeles insurer donates $500k to community hospital partner to help high-risk patients
L.A. Care Health Plan in Los Angeles donated $500,000 to its partner institution Los Angeles-based Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Hospital to fund the organization's advanced care clinic.

13. North Carolina hospital receives $6.5M grant for mental health services
Charles A Cannon, Jr. Memorial Hospital in Linville, N.C., received $6.5 million from the state to expand its mental health services, according to NC Health News.

14. Medical College of Wisconsin receives $37.8M, largest gift in school history
Milwaukee-based Medical College of Wisconsin received a $37.8 million gift from the Kern Family Foundation, the largest philanthropic gift in school history, according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

15. Nevada legislators set aside $25M in funding for University of Nevada medical school
The Nevada legislature allocated $25 million to fund the new University of Nevada, Las Vegas School of Medicine after a private donor pledged to donate the same amount, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

16. NJ congressman announces $2.4M grant for healthcare in underserved communities
Rep. David Norcross, D-NJ, announced  a $2.4 million HHS grant for CAMCare health that will help fund healthcare centers in underserved communities in southern New Jersey.

17. University of Michigan Medical School receives largest grant in history at $58M
Ann Arbor-based University of Michigan Medical School received a $58 million grant from the National Institutes of Health, one of the largest grants the medical school has ever received. 

18. Cleveland Clinic receives $10M grant to support eye institute
Cleveland Clinic's Cole Eye Institute was gifted a $10 million grant from the Timken Foundation of Canton, which will allow the eye institute to almost double in size. The grant will help the institute provide service to its growing patient base, advance many research projects and supply more educational opportunities.
