Numerous healthcare organizations received donations to fund research, advance treatments, improve patient care and start renovations in August.

Here are 17 recent donations, grants or gifts given to healthcare organizations by various entities in the past month, beginning with the most recent.

1. Children's Miracle Network Hospitals, Entravision raise $3.2M for member hospitals during charity event
Children's Miracle Network Hospitals, a charity that raises funds for 170 member hospitals across the nation, and Entravision Communications, a media company, raised $3.2 million for member hospitals during a charity event earlier this month.

2. Lurie Children's Hospital receives $3.5M from Chicago Cubs first baseman
Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago received a $3.5 million gift from Chicago Cubs first baseman Anthony Rizzo.

3. LSU Health New Orleans receives $10M NIH grant to advance research on virus-induced cancers
The National Institutes of General Medical Sciences, one of the National Institutes of Health, has given a $10 million grant to LSU Health New Orleans to advance research on the treatment and diagnostic tools for virus-induced cancers.

Baltimore-based University of Maryland School of Medicine received $2.47 million from the NIH to develop a vaccine against Shigella and enterotoxigenic E. coli, which is a leading cause of diarrheal disease in young children in developing countries.

13. 17 New Jersey Hospitals collectively secure $36.5M in funding thanks to legislative effort
