10 Metro Areas Where Preventive Care is Most Expensive

Big data company Castlight Health has released a map showing healthcare cost variations around the country.

The map displays the average price and price range for common medical services using information from medical claims along with provider information and providers' rate sheets that show the actual, negotiated price of a specific service.

Ten of the most expensive metro areas for a preventive primary care visit include (note: not all metro areas are represented on the map):

  1. San Francisco: Average $251, range $117-$461
  2. Omaha, Neb.: Average $223, range $171-$235
  3. Milwaukee: Average $222, range $125-$306
  4. Sacramento, Calif.: Average $219, range $114-$441
  5. Portland, Ore.: Average $216, range $117-$299
  6. Minneapolis: Average $209, range $89-$303
  7. Charlotte, N.C.: Average $199, range $60-$241
  8. Boston: Average $193, range $100-$379
  9. Seattle: Average $189, range $137-$291
  10. Spokane, Wash.: Average $187, range $60-$236
