Here are the top 10 gifts, pledges and bequests from individuals to hospitals or health organizations within the past year.

The Chronicle of Philanthropy maintains a database of recent gifts of $1 million or more made by individuals to charitable institutions. Please note several gifts are of equal value, meaning more than 10 are listed on this page.

The giving figures are based on donations announced to date by the donors or their beneficiaries. In cases of bequests, most of the figures are estimates because the wills have not been settled.

1. $150 million to Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center (New York)
Donor:
David H. Koch, executive vice president at Wichita, Kan.-based Koch Industries, a multinational group of energy, chemicals, investment and other types of companies.
Details: The pledge will fund a new outpatient cancer care building, which will be named after Mr. Koch.

2. $100 million to Sanford-Burnham Medical Research Institute (La Jolla, Calif.)
Donor: Conrad T. Prebys, president and owner of San Diego-based Progress Construction and Management.
Details: The donation will fund programs to aid the development of new drugs and various other medical therapies.

3. $75 million to San Francisco General Hospital Foundation
Donor: Mark Zuckerberg, cofounder and CEO of Facebook, and his wife, Priscilla Chan, MD, who completed her medical training at the hospital.
Details: The gift will fund technology and equipment at the hospital's new acute care and trauma center.

4. $50 million to Inova Health System (Falls Church, Va.)
Donor: Dwight C. and Martha Schar. Mr. Schar is chairman and CEO of Reston, Va.-based NVR, a homebuilding company.
Details: The donation will go toward the system's new cancer center, which will be named after the donors.

4. $50 million to Children's Hospital of Philadelphia
Donor: Raymond G. Perelman, chairman and president of Wilmington, Del.-based RGP holdings, a company that owns finance, manufacturing and mining businesses.
Details: The gift, equal to the largest ever received by CHOP, will establish the Raymond G. Perelman Campus, an eight-acre area that will serve as a hub of pediatric research and clinical innovation at CHOP.

5. $40 million to Norwalk Hospital (Conn.)
Donor: Ruth Bedford, the granddaughter of Edward T. Bedford, who served as director of Standard Oil in the early 1900s. Mr. Bedford is credited with helping develop Vaseline.
Details: Ms. Bedford volunteered at Norwalk Hospital for more than 50 years before she died in June 2014. Her bequest came with no strings attached. Hospital officials told the Chronicle they were in the planning stages with the funds and would use the bequest to strengthen the vitality of the hospital.

6. $20 million to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital (Memphis)
Donor: Eric Trump, executive vice president of development and acquisitions at New York City-based The Trump Organization. He is the youngest son of real estate mogul and presidential candidate Donald Trump. To date, his nonprofit — the Eric Trump Foundation — has donated and pledged $28 million to St. Jude.
Details: The gift will be used for an intensive care unit and pediatric surgical center at the hospital.

7. $10 million to Beaumont Hospital-Troy (Mich.)
Donor: Dominic and Frances Moceri, real estate developers and owners of Auburn Hills, Mich.-based Moceri Companies.
Details: The donation will go toward the construction of a new intensive care unit, and the construction and endowment of a family learning center.

7. $10 million to MedStar Health (Washington, D.C.)
Donor: Harold and Nancy Zirkin. Mr. Zirkin is the founder of Bethesda, Md.-based Zirkind-Cutler Invstments, which he sold in 2010 to United Capital, where he now serves as managing director. Ms. Zirkin is executive vice president at the Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights.
Details: The donation, the largest single gift in the history of the system, will support the creation of the Heart Hospital on MedStar Washington Hospital Center’s campus.

7. $10 million to University of Wisconsin Hospital (Madison)
Donor: James Berbee, MD, an emergency medicine professor at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health, and his wife, Karen Walsh.
Details: The challenge gift — a type of gift that extends an invitation to others and "challenges" them to donate — will go toward an expansion of the hospital's emergency department, which is one of only two Level I trauma and burn centers in Wisconsin.

7. $10 million challenge pledge to Parkland Foundation (Dallas)
Donor: Lyda Hill, chairman of Dallas-based private investment firm LH Holdings and the Lyda Hill Foundation. She is the granddaughter of oil tycoon H.L. Hunt.
Details: The challenge pledge — a type of pledge that extends an invitation to others and "challenges" them to donate — will go toward the hospital's capital campaign.

8. $6.5 million to Houston Methodist Hospital
Donor: Alan and Sherrie Conover. Mr. Conover is director of Estero, Fla.-based Beatrice Conover Foundation.
Details: The gift will fund a new center to study liver disease.

9. $5 million to Ecumen Foundation (Shoreview, Minn.)
Donor: Debbie and Robert Cervenka. Mr. Cervenka is the founder of Hudson, Wis.-based Phillips Plastics Corporation, an injection molding company, which he sold. He has received assistance from the Ecumen Foundation, which provides senior housing options and services, as well as development and management options for outside organizations. Ms. Cervenka serves on Ecumen's board.
Details: The donation will help senior citizens pay for assisted living and other needed services when they outlive their assets.

9. $5 million to UnityPoint Health (West Des Moines)
Donor: William Knapp, a real estate developer and chairman of West Des Moines-based Knapp Properties.
Details: The pledge will be used to expand and renovate the emergency department and trauma center at Iowa Methodist Center and Blank Children's Hospital, both of which are in Des Moines.

9. $5 million to Cape Cod Healthcare Foundation (Hyannis, Mass.)
Donor: Anonymous
Details: The donation will fund a new emergency center.

9. $5 million to RiverviewMedicalCenter (Neptune, N.J.)
Donor: Anonymous
Details: The donation will help launch an integrative medicine program at the medical center.

9. $5 million to Lehigh Valley Hospital and Health Network (Allentown, Pa.)
Donor: Charles Chrin, president and founder of Palmer Township, Pa.-based Charles Chrin Companies, which manages real estate and waste management.
Details: The donation will go toward Lehigh Valley Hospital and Health Network's Heart and Vascular Center. Mr. Chrin had heart surgery at the hospital in 2012.

9. $5 million to University of Minnesota Masonic Children's Hospital (Minneapolis)
Donor: Mark and Zygi Wilf. Mark Wilf is a principal at Short Hills, N.J.-based Garden Homes Development, a real estate firm. His brother, Zygi Wilf, is the principal owner of the Minnesota Vikings, the professional football team.
Details: The gift will support technology, communications and education at the hospital.

10. $4.8 million to Brattleboro (Vt.) Memorial Hospital
Donor: Ronald Read, a former gas station attendant and janitor from Drummerston, Vt. Before he died in 2014, Mr. Read secretly amassed a fortune through various investments throughout his lifetime.
Details: Mr. Read's $4.8 million bequest is unrestricted.
