Mechanicsville, Va.-based Sheltering Arms Physical Rehabilitation Centers purchased 25.1 acres of land in Goochland County for $7.91 million to construct a hospital in partnership with Richmond-based Virginia Commonwealth University Health System, according to the Richmond Times Dispatch.
The new 200,000-square-foot facility, which will be named Sheltering Arms Rehab Institute, will have 114 beds. It will offer inpatient services for people who are recovering from strokes, spinal cord injuries or brain injuries.
"The purchase of this property allows us to move forward with our plans to advance the convergence of rehabilitative and regenerative medicine consistent with our commitment to provide top-notch innovative care for our patients in a setting that will have easy accessibility from the major highways, ample parking and green space that is conducive to healing," said Mary Zweifel, CEO of Sheltering Arms, according to the Richmond Times Dispatch.
The facility is expected to open in 2020.
