Alia Paavola -

Baltimore-based University of Maryland Shore Regional Health filed a certificate of need for a $350 million hospital to replace Shore Medical Center in Easton (Md.), according to the Dorchester Banner.

The new 334,000-square-foot, six-story replacement hospital will house 135 inpatient beds, 26 emergency department treatment rooms, 16 observation beds, six operating rooms and a cardiac suite.

If the certificate of need is approved, construction will begin in summer 2021 and end in 2024.

"When it opens, this new hospital will be the capstone of many years of planning that has gone on while health care has changed dramatically," Kenneth Kozel, president and CEO of Shore Regional told the Banner. "With the new regional medical center in Easton, our vision for a regional coordinated network of facilities and services will be further realized."
