Thinking out of the box: Focusing on retention strategies

There is a shortage of experienced operating room staff, so ORs are relying on substantial sign-on bonuses to attract people. However, a sign-on bonus is not sufficient as a long-term retention strategy. How can hospitals retain key staff and prevent them from moving on to the next hospital with a sign on bonus once their contract expires?
