Alia Paavola -

Indianapolis-based Riley Children's Health will construct a $142 million maternity and newborn health center, according to Inside Indiana Business.

The plan includes centralizing inpatient obstetric services and neonatal care at the three Indianapolis hospitals into one facility. Four floors of the Riley Hospital for Children at IU health will be renovated to house a labor and delivery unit, 45-bed neonatal intensive care unit and a postpartum unit. In addition, existing maternal fetal medicine clinics at IU Health University Hospital and IU Health Methodist Hospital, both in Indianapolis, will move to the Riley campus.

"Riley Children's Health is poised to deepen its impact on the health of Hoosiers by expanding our focus to include comprehensive obstetric care for pregnant women while continuing our long-standing commitment to children," Matthew Cook, president of Riley Children's Health, told Inside Indiana Business.

The maternity center is expected to open in summer 2020.
