MetroHealth breaks ground on 264-bed Cleveland hospital

Alia Paavola -

MetroHealth System in Cleveland broke ground April 15 on an 11-story, 264-bed hospital, which is part of its $946 million revamp, according to The Plain Dealer.

Construction of the hospital is expected to be finished in 2022 and open for patients in 2023.

Once the new hospital is up, MetroHealth's existing hospital towers will be demolished, and some of the space they occupied will be converted to green space.

The renovation started in 2014 and includes the new hospital, an expansion of the health system's critical care pavilion, a larger parking garage and an upgraded central utility plant.
