American Hospital Dubai will become the first Middle Eastern healthcare organization to join the Mayo Clinic Care Network.

Here are five things to know about the affiliation:

1. A formal agreement between the facilities allows American Hospital Dubai to operate independently but access Mayo Clinic's intelligence and resources, such as patient education materials and archived presentations.

2. American Hospital Dubai can use Mayo products and services, like eConsults that allow physicians in Dubai to connect with Mayo specialists, an expert database, healthcare consulting and eTumor Board conferences.

3. Founded in 1996, American Hospital Dubai is a private 240-bed acute care, general medical and surgical facility.

4. The hospital underwent evaluation before entering the network.

5. Mayo Clinic Care Network, launched in 2011, has over 35 members in the U.S., Mexico, Puerto Rico and Singapore.
