Nantucket (Mass.) Cottage Hospital will begin transferring patients to its new facility, built next door to its current facility on Feb. 20, according to WCAI.
The new building cost nearly $90 million and will offer more comprehensive operating services. It will be able to withstand a Category 5 hurricane.
"Our wonderful 1957 building, which was built before medicare, before cell phones, before cardiac catheterization, had really outlived its usefulness," said Margot Hartmann, president of Nantucket Cottage Hospital. "That's when we knew the time had come to think about a new home for Nantucket Cottage Hospital."
Once all patients are transferred to the new facility, the old building will be demolished to make room for temporary staff housing.
