Illinois hospital to build $60M replacement hospital

Alia Paavola -

Taylorville (Ill.) Memorial Hospital is planning to construct a two-story, $60 million replacement hospital, reports The State Journal-Register.

The new hospital, which still needs approval from the Illinois Health Facilities and Services Review board, will replace the hospital's original five-story, 110-bed facility, which was constructed in the mid-1950s. The new building will be on the hospital's campus.

The proposed 97,000-square-foot facility will house larger inpatient rooms, a new inpatient space, outpatient services, laboratory services, educational conference rooms and administrative offices.

The original five-story building will be demolished after construction is completed.

"It's a huge deal for Taylorville," said Jim Adcock, chairman of the Taylorville Memorial Hospital's board of directors. "The hospital has been a vital piece of our community for more than 100 years."

Hospital officials expect the facility to be completed in two-phases by early 2021.
