Grand Rapids hospital resumes full operations after heat returns

Megan Knowles -

Mercy Health St. Mary's Hospital in Grand Rapids, Mich., reopened all departments Wednesday, more than a day after diverting emergency patients to other local hospitals when a boiler was damaged at a nearby energy plant, according to a WOOD-TV report.

The hospital lost heat after a boiler exploded late Monday night at Veolia Energy plant, which provides steam for the hospital and around 130 buildings in the city's downtown area.

The hospital limited its number of scheduled surgeries for Wednesday, with plans to resume a full surgical schedule Thursday, according to WOOD-TV.
