The Cleveland Clinic will build a new hospital in Mentor, Ohio, that will feature both inpatient and outpatient care as well as an emergency department, according to Cleveland.com.
The hospital is part of the clinic's plan to attract new patients and double its number of patients, up to 4 million, in the next five years.
"Responsible stewardship will allow us to grow, and we will grow both physically and digitally. We'll invest in our home base and our core infrastructure here in Ohio," Tomislav Mihaljevic, MD, CEO of the Cleveland Clinic, said during his annual state of the clinic address.
The new hospital will be within 7 miles of two competing hospitals, though Kevin Malecek, director of economic development and international trade for Mentor, said he believes the competition will be good for the community.
"I think it's always a good thing for us to have another hospital option, another medical service option for our population," Mr. Malecek told Cleveland.com. "As we have an aging population in this area, there will be plenty of patients."
