Central Pennsylvania a boon for hospital expansions: 5 things to know

Central Pennsylvania is seeing a hospital boom as health systems build, expand and replace facilities in the area, according to Penn Live.

Five things to know:

1. Penn State Health, a multihospital system in Hershey, said July 22 that it plans to build a hospital on a 30-acre site in East Hempfield Township.

2. Penn State is also heading up a hospital project in Hampden Township. Its new 108-bed, $200 million hospital is expected to open in summer 2021, according to Penn Live.

3. Harrisburg-based UPMC Pinnacle plans to expand its hospital in Hampden Township, barely a mile from Penn State's new hospital. UPMC Pinnacle will add two floors and 58 beds to its hospital.

4. Likewise, UPMC Pinnacle is expanding its Ortenzio Cancer Center on the same Hampden Township campus, according to Penn Live.

5. Additionally, UPMC Pinnacle is building a replacement hospital for its York-based Memorial Hospital, which is expected to open in August.
