After 112 years, Maryland hospital moves to new campus

Washington Adventist Hospital has been in Takoma Park, Md., since it opened in 1907. On Aug. 25, the hospital will move to its new $400 million campus in White Oak, Md., according to The Washington Post.

Washington Adventist Hospital, part of Gaithersburg, Md.-based Adventist HealthCare, is the largest employer in Takoma Park, and local officials say the relocation of the hospital will be a significant loss to the community. Hospital executives and state regulators say the move is necessary and will allow Washington Adventist Hospital to adapt to changing regional healthcare needs, according to the report.

The move to White Oak will also allow the hospital to leave behind an outdated facility, and the new hospital campus provides easier access to patients in Montgomery County and Prince George's County, according to The Washington Post, which cited information from hospital officials and state regulators.
