5 hospitals planning upgrades, expansions

Below are five hospitals or health systems that announced, started or completed construction projects in the last week.

1. Ohio hospital to open $220M tower this month
Summa Akron (Ohio) City Hospital will open its $220 million tower to patients May 28.

2. UPMC to open 130-bed replacement hospital Aug. 18
The 130-bed, five-story replacement hospital for UPMC Pinnacle Memorial Hospital in York, Pa., is slated to open Aug. 18.

3. Carilion Clinic to invest $500M in expansion
As part of its plan to invest $1 billion in capital improvements in the next seven years, Carilion Clinic will spend more than $500 million to build and equip an expansion at Roanoke (Va.) Memorial Hospital.

4. Sanford Health to double size of birthing center
As hospitals across the country shutter their delivery units, Sanford Health-Bismark (N.D.) plans to double the size of its birthing center.

5. Beebe Healthcare to start construction of $124M surgical hospital
Lewes, Del.-based Beebe Healthcare aims to begin construction this month of a $124 million, full-service hospital focusing on short-stay surgical procedures.
