12 hospital, health system construction projects worth $300M or more

Twelve hospitals and health systems since Oct. 1 have advanced, completed or began facility expansions and renovations with price tags of $300 million or more.

1. Mohawk Valley Health System break grounds on $480M New York hospital
Utica, N.Y.-based Mohawk Valley Health System broke ground Dec. 12 on its $480 million hospital.

2. Baptist Health Care moves to design phase of $550M replacement hospital
Pensacola, Fla.-based Baptist Health Care selected an architect, program manager and general contractor for its $550 million replacement hospital.

3. Nebraska Medicine plans billion dollar campus expansion
Nebraska Medicine and the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha are planning a sprawling $1 billion to $2 billion medical complex with buildings for research and inpatient care. 

4. Kaiser plans $13B expansion in Baltimore area
Oakland, Calif.-based Kaiser Permanente plans to open 10 new medical facilities in the Baltimore area as part of a $13 billion expansion plan.

5. Stanford opens $2B hospital 
After 10 years of planning and construction, Palo Alto, Calif.-based Stanford Health Care opened its $2 billion hospital on Nov. 17.

6. Emory breaks ground on 17-story cancer center
Atlanta-based Emory University Hospital Midtown and its Winship Cancer Institute broke ground Nov. 12 on a 17-story facility that will focus on cancer care. The project will cost about $469 million.

7. Inspira Health to open $365M hospital in December
Woodbury, N.J.-based Inspira Health is slated to open its $365 million medical center in late December.

8. OU Medical Center to complete $364M tower next year
Oklahoma City-based OU Medical Center is slated to complete its $364 million patient tower in 2020.

9. Health First to invest $600M to move hospital, build health villages
Health First, a community health system that operates four hospitals in Brevard County, Fla., plans to invest $600 million to build three wellness and health villages and relocate one of its facilities.

10. Valley Health breaks ground on $800M replacement hospital
Ridgewood, N.J.-based Valley Health broke ground on its $800 million replacement for its flagship hospital in Ridgewood.

11. Michigan Medicine breaks ground on $920M hospital as employees protest parking plans
During a groundbreaking ceremony for Ann Arbor-based Michigan Medicine's $920 million hospital, two dozen nurses protested over an ongoing dispute involving employee parking.

12Emory Healthcare starts building $1B 'health innovation district'
Atlanta-based Emory Healthcare broke ground Oct. 4 on its musculoskeletal institute, part of the system's planned $1 billion "health innovation district."
