Vital launches ER patient triage software for EHRs

Jackie Drees -

Vital, an artificial intelligence-powered software that integrates with EHRs, has launched with $5.2 million from its latest financing round, TechCrunch reports.

The cloud-based software is designed to triage emergency room patients before they see the physician. Vital integrates with the ED's existing EHR system and can be accessed via mobile application. Once a patient enters the ED, the admitting nurse can send them a survey through the Vital app, which the patient can then add his or her personal health information, such as height, weight and medications. Patient information entered to the app is then transferred to a tracking board for physicians and nurses, which uses AI to analyze which patients need care first, according to the report.

"[Physicians] and nurses often put more time into paperwork and data entry than patient care," Vital Founder and CEO Aaron Patzer said. With the software, the company aims to decrease ER wait times and reduce provider burnout.
