Utah HIE taps NextGate to enhance patient identification, interoperability

Jackie Drees -

UHIN, a health information exchange for 95 percent of Utah hospitals, will implement NextGate's cloud-based enterprise master patient index, according to a Jan. 16 news release.

UHIN has a network of 25,000 provider participants, including Intermountain Healthcare and University of Utah Health, both located in Salt Lake City.

By partnering with NextGate, UHIN will be able to integrate clinical and claims data from multiple systems. NextGate's software allows clinicians and payers to link patient records in any system, supporting more accurate patient identification.

"Healthcare organizations continue to struggle with poor data quality when managing their patient population. Fragmented multi-vendor systems only compound the problem, giving rise to inaccurate and outdated patient information," NextGate CEO Andy Aroditis said in the news release.

UHIN's network currently comprises more than 214 million claims records and 6 million clinical patient records across Utah.
