Here are four things to know:
1. The company said during its annual investor day Nov. 27 that its EHR will be a major asset in growing its health insurer and provider businesses.
2. Steve Nelson, the CEO of UnitedHealth’s health insurance arm UnitedHealthcare, said, according to Forbes: “A traditional electronic medical record focuses largely on streamlining internal business processes, for facilities and medical groups. But the [‘individual’ health record] connects numerous EMRs, creating a unified and secure source of truth for both consumers and care providers, and unlocking the value of data that is currently trapped in today’s fragmented healthcare system.”
3. The “individual” health record will be accessible for 1 million providers before 2020, executives said.
4. UnitedHealth initially revealed plans to debut an EHR in 2019 for its members and for providers, CEO David Wichmann said on the company’s third-quarter earnings call Oct. 16.
