Seattle Children's achieves HIMSS Analytics Stage 6

Julie Spitzer -

Seattle Children's Hospital has achieved the Stage 6 designation from the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society Analytics for its investments in improving patient care through an EMR strategy, hospital spokeswoman Anna Altavas told Becker's Hospital Review.

The 403-bed facility joins the ranks of other HIMSS Analytics Stage 6 hospitals, a feat only reached by 34 percent of U.S. hospitals. HIMSS Analytics developed the EMR Adoption Model in 2005 as a way to evaluate hospitals' progress and impact of EMR systems.

"Seattle Children's is very proud to have achieved HIMSS Stage 6 with our EMR," Zafar Chaudry, MD, senior vice president and CIO of Seattle Children's, told Becker's in an emailed statement. "This reflects our commitment and investment in systems to support excellence in care, and exemplifies our drive to bring high-quality technology to patients and their families. Seattle Children's continues to deliver exceptional patient care using an EMR that is interoperable, and supports its continued focus on clinical quality, patient safety and operational efficiencies."

As a Stage 6 hospital, Seattle Children's has fully automated its medical records and created strategic alightments with its staff to use IT to improve patient care.

"We owe this landmark success to the way we have advanced our IT capabilities to successfully position them to address the rapid advancements in the healthcare industry," Ms. Altavas said in an emailed statement.
