Oracle Cerner layoffs in Kansas City may number less than 500

While Oracle Cerner underwent a "mass" layoff recently, according to some affected employees, the company may not have been required to notify the government, Kansas City Business Journal reported March 23.

Though the EHR vendor hasn't commented publicly about the job reductions, the news outlet found at least 50 employees who posted on LinkedIn that they will be part of the March 31 layoffs. They comprise such departments as software development, engineering and marketing.

Still, the state of Missouri, where the Cerner campus is based, has not received a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act filing, which is required when 50 to 499 employees, making up at least a third of the staff at a single location, are let go, according to the story. That means the layoffs in Kansas City may number fewer than 500, since Cerner employs about 12,000 people full time in that area.

The overall Oracle Cerner job cuts have been rumored to be 10 percent of its global workforce of 28,000, the Business Journal reported. They're believed to be part of the company's restructuring plan aimed at saving $927 million.
