ONC reflected on some of its achievements over the last year as well as the agency's goals for 2020 in a Sept. 26 blog post co-authored by Don Rucker, MD, national coordinator for health IT and Steven Posnack, deputy national coordinator for health IT.

Dr. Rucker and Mr. Posnack published the blog post in light of National Health IT Week. The post highlights some of ONC's 2019 achievements, including its partnership with the Sequoia Project as the agency's new recognized coordinating entity as well as its release of the fourth annual update to the Interoperability Standards Advisory.

For 2020, Dr. Rucker and Mr. Posnack outlined the following tasks on ONC's "to-do" list:

1. Release a final strategy and plan on ways to decrease health IT-related clinician burden.

2. Issue a final first version of the Common Agreement in collaboration with the recognized coordinating entity.

3. Ensure patients have the digital tools to view and share their own electronic health information with any individuals or applications they choose.

4. Elevate efforts to see secure, standards-based application programming interfaces be more widely used to support patient access and population services among the health IT community.

5. Expand the U.S. Core Data for Interoperability.
