Thirty percent of home healthcare and hospice organizations are planning on expanding interoperability initiatives to improve patient data management, according to a Brightree survey.
For the survey, Brightree, a cloud-based health IT company, commissioned market research firm Porter Research to interview 675 home healthcare and hospice providers as well as 440 of their referral sources about their opinions on interoperability and electronic referrals.
Four survey insights:
1. Seventy percent of home healthcare and hospice organizations said that within the past one to two years, there has been an increase in the number of referral sources that request data to be sent electronically.
2. More than half (60 percent) of referring providers said they would be willing to switch to a new post-acute provider if that organization can accept electronic referrals.
3. Just 4 percent of home healthcare and hospice organizations said they were able to accept electronic referrals from a referral source EHR system.
4. Thirty-one percent of post-acute care providers said they would switch EHRs if they found a vendor that could better support their interoperability needs.
