Nearly half of providers favor Cerner, Amazon partnership, survey finds

Jackie Drees -

More than half (52 percent) of information technology and business executives at healthcare provider organizations across the country took notice of Cerner and Amazon's recent partnership, according to a Reaction Data report.

Cerner announced July 30 that Amazon Web Services would serve as its preferred cloud provider to increase the EHR vendor's analytics and machine learning services for clinical and business insights.

For its Market Reaction to the Cerner/Amazon Partnership report, Reaction Data surveyed various healthcare provider organizations’ executives in the following roles: CEO, CIO, CFO, COO, IT director, vice president of IT, vice president of operations and managing director.

Three survey insights:

1. Of the 43 percent of respondents who said they favored the Cerner and AWS partnership, 13 percent said it was extremely favorable.

2. When asked whether there will be a positive impact on Cerner customers and patients, 7 percent said it was "highly likely" and 31 percent of respondents said it was likely.

3. Just 3 percent of participants said they think the AWS partnership will be very unlikely to turn a positive impact for Cerner customers and patients.
