More than 50% of providers now connected through Carequality Interoperability Framework

Jessica Kim Cohen -

The Carequality Interoperability Framework has connected more than 50 percent of healthcare providers across the U.S., the nonprofit organization The Sequoia Project announced Dec. 5.

Carequality, which The Sequoia Project launched in July 2016, is a national interoperability framework designed to enable data exchange among health data sharing networks — even between different EHR vendors. To date, more than 1,000 hospitals, 25,000 clinics and 580,000 providers have connected through the framework.

In October, providers shared more than 1.7 million documents through Carequality. Officials expect this number to continue to grow, and said the organization has plans to bring additional providers live on Carequality in the first quarter of 2018.

"Our implementing networks continue to attract more and more hospitals, practices and medical groups," said Dave Cassel, vice president of Carequality. "Additional networks are coming on line that connect payers, many more providers and even patients themselves as direct participants in their care."
