Florence, S.C.-based McLeod Health will roll out a Cerner EHR at four more of its hospitals in September, according to SC Now.
In an op-ed article written by McLeod Health emergency physician Byron Frost, MD, the physician details how the health system's transition to a single EHR system will help improve clinicians' care decisions.
"Having all of a patient's information in one place allows me to make better informed decisions about their care, eliminates the need for redundant procedures or diagnostics and reduces the risk of prescription errors or contraindications," Dr. Frost wrote.
In March, McLeod Health implemented a Cerner Millennium EHR system at three of its hospitals in Manning, Little River and Loris, all based in South Carolina. The EHR implementation project is expected to take two years, but once the systems are live, patients will be able to access their medical records, tests results and billing information through Cerner's EHR patient portal.
McLeod Health comprises seven hospitals and 931 patient beds. The nonprofit health system is home to more than 750 physicians.
