A Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society subsidiary recognized Towson, Md.-based GBMC HealthCare for its EMR initiatives, the system announced Aug. 17.
GBMC HealthCare earned Stage 7 on the eight-stage HIMSS Analytics EMR Adoption Model, which measures the degree to which a hospital uses its EMR functions. Five percent of U.S. hospitals have reached Stage 7, which represents the highest designation.
Officials said GBMC HealthCare, which has used an Epic EMR since October 2016, was the first health system in Maryland to reach Stage 7 for both acute care and ambulatory services.
"We are committed to providing the care we want for our own loved ones to every patient, every time," said John Chessare, MD, president and CEO of GBMC HealthCare. "This is not possible when the physicians and nurses have access to only some of the patient’s information."
