Former Thomson Reuters exec joins Modernizing Medicine as president: 3 things to know

Jessica Kim Cohen -

Modernizing Medicine appointed Joe Harpaz as president and COO, the specialty health IT vendor confirmed July 16.

Modernizing Medicine develops EHRs targeted toward select medical specialties — including dermatology, gastroenterology and ophthalmology, among other areas — for use at ambulatory surgery centers and physician practices.

Here are three things to know about Mr. Harpaz and his new role:

1. At Modernizing Medicine, Mr. Harpaz will oversee client services, revenue cycle management, marketing, sales and business development, along with advising the company on the implementation of its strategic growth initiatives.

2. He joins Modernizing Medicine from information and technology provider Thomson Reuters, where he most recently served as managing director of the corporate segment for the company's tax and accounting business.

3. Board member Amr Kronfol suggested Mr. Harpaz's 20-plus years of experience in technology and business might help the company as it considers opportunities related to mergers and acquisitions.

"Joe's strategic thinking, business acumen and strong technology foundation, as well as his customer-focused mentality and ability to foster deep relationships, will be invaluable in refining and executing Modernizing Medicine's customer-focused strategy," Mr. Kronfol said in Modernizing Medicine's July 16 statement. "In addition, Joe will bring to bear his deep M&A expertise to help the company evaluate opportunities for inorganic growth and consolidation."
